Watch your speed as you can get going fast here and there are a couple tight corners where you could find yourself wresting with some unfriendly cactus. When you are getting close to the cars, about a quarter mile, there is a trail split off to the left where there are sometimes trucks and horse trailers parked. Hang out in the shade for a bit and return the way you came. To continue to three bridges go downhill for another 3 miles. Some choose this as a turnaround point, just over 6 miles into the ride. Follow the twists and turns and be ready for the grind up to what some call Castle Lookout Hill. Travel through the only "wooded" section on the trail. Take a sharp right and look for the trail 50' down the road on the left. There are sections where you have to go up and over rocks and find your correct line.įollow the trail out of the park up and over some rocky parts. After this is gets a little more technical, but nothing too bad. The ride starts off with a flowy section to Collosal Cave Mountain Park. Here are 10 stops to make on a fun-filled west-to-east road trip along I-10. Scenic route: From East Broadway in Tucson, turn south onto scenic Old Spanish Trail and follow it about seventeen miles to Colossal Cave.Īlternate route: Take Interstate Highway I-10 east from Tucson to Exit 279 (Vail Exit), turn north, and follow signs for about six miles to Colossal Cave.Īdmission fees for guided cave tour: Reservations recommended. This is a fun out and back section on the AZ trail. This highway runs the length of the U.S., but a particular stretch between Tucson, Arizona, and Las Cruces, New Mexico, offers a pleasing mix of historic sites, state and national parks, and kitschy, gram-worthy stops. Trail rides are also available from the ranch. Many people enjoy hiking the trail system and birding along the riparian area. There is a second gift shop, a snack bar and a gemstone sluice along with a butterfly garden and tortoise enclosure. The one hundred and twenty-year-old historic La Posta Quemada Ranch, a working cattle ranch, is located within the park. Wells Fargo never did reveal exactly how much money was actually stolen. What finally happened to the money is still murky. According to rumor, up to sixty thousand dollars were hidden away in the cave then later retrieved by one of the robbers. In the second robbery, the bandits turned the locomotive over on its side with the engineer still in it. In one holdup, the robbers disconnected the train's engine, mail and express cars and took off for Tucson, leaving the rest of the train and passengers stranded in the desert. According to the legend, the cavern served as a bandit hideout twice in 1887, after two exciting train robberies. There is a ramp to the gift shop, but the cave itself is not wheelchair accessible.ĭeep inside the cave, tour guides explain how the cave formed, point out the beautiful formations, and tell the "Bandit Legend," the favorite part of the tour for many guests. Tours leave from the gift shop at the entrance. Today visitors take a fifty-minute, one-half mile guided tour down six stories into Colossal Cave to see the beautiful formations. Recent studies show it once served as a Hohokam shrine. The cave was officially "discovered" in 1879, but artifacts and soot-blackened ceilings testify to use by prehistoric cultures. Today, Colossal Cave is "dry," or dormant, and the formations are no longer growing.Ĭolossal Cave Mountain Park is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and it certainly has a history. As the climate became more arid, the cave gradually dried up. Over millions of years, stalactites, stalagmites, columns and draperies formed slowly from water dripping from the ceiling. Groundwater seeping through the Escabrosa limestone formed the cave. Due to the enormously complex three-dimensional maze, it took over two years to map the two miles of passageway that are fully explored. The cave is not fully explored, but scientists estimate that there are at least thirty nine miles of natural tunnels inside the cavern. Located in the Rincon Mountains at an elevation of three thousand seven hundred feet, the entrance commands a panoramic view of the Sonoran Desert. One of the largest dry caves in North America, it maintains a pleasant seventy degrees Fahrenheit temperature year-around. It's always perfect weather for touring Colossal Cave, just twenty two miles southeast of Tucson, Arizona. Colossal Cave Sonoran Desert - Vail, Arizona

He was one of the people who guided me in the SC2 world. I worked many events with Geoff back when I became a host. I saw him in person last year at BlizzCon, and as I was starstruck, I regretfully didn't introduce myself. Geoff was a bit of a hero of mine with his limitless entertainment when I was coming up in esports. As I went my own way after SC, Geoff encouraged and cheered me on. I was shocked when he reached out to be my friend. I’m in utter shambles right now.Geoff was one of my BIGGEST role models when I first started in StarCraft/NASL. My sincere condolences to all your loved ones. Thank you for everything you have given us. I'm struggling to wrap my head around this. Geoff was an absolute pillar of StarCraft and dearly loved by many. A world without him is wanting, but profoundly blessed to have had him. He exemplified what it was to be a good man. For now I just want to say: Geoff was & always will be a beacon of love, laughter and leadership. Nothing I could post would properly express my grief and shock. We played Brood War in high school & college and did years of SC2/BW events together. After we both left EG we grew closer and supported each other mutually, talked, and confided in one another. When I first joined EG me and Geoff were both stubborn and young. Many top esports luminaries have weighed in on Robinson's shocking death on social media. He also helped put together The Pylon Show, a weekly StarCraft 2 podcast, with fellow co-hosts Daniel Ray "Artosis " Stemkoski and Matt "CobraVe7nom7" Land. Even with EG stepping away from SC2, Robinson remained behind and worked with the community independently. Robinson had been a cog of the Evil Geniuses StarCraft II team all the way through 2017, when the organization disbanded the SC2 squad. He most recently worked the 2019 WCS Summer Qualifiers for North America and Europe. In addition to acting as an early host for the beloved State of the Game podcast, Robinson frequently worked as an English commentator for many of Blizzard's StarCraft II tournaments. However, he is much more widely known as a caster, having grown to become one of the faces of StarCraft esports. Robinson started off as a StarCraft: Brood War player, but soon dove into StarCraft II from 2010-2011. Let’s live today in his example of love and laughter BARRISTAN is safe in the care of friends, and family will share words of remembrance when they are ready. Geoff is deeply loved across many communities and we’re all working to make sure his affairs are in order as he’d want. To honor Geoff or offer comfort to his family, we suggest donations to which he loved. We ask privacy as his family works to understand what happened and make arrangements. With immense grief, we announce Geoff’s unexpected passing due to sudden illness Saturday. Few details have been issued regarding his death, but Robinson's Twitter account issued a statement on Sunday regarding his untimely passing. The esports world was stunned and saddened on Sunday evening to learn of the sudden passing of Geoffrey "iNconroL" Robinson. Boomerang Data Recovery Software for macOS X. One of the biggest advantages of SaaS solutions (compared to desktop installations) is their accessibility for smaller businesses expecting rapid growth. It has a focus on scaling in that you can easily move between their different plans as your company grows. Like HelpNDoc, ClickHelp is quick to get up and running. You can output to a number of formats, including HTML5, CHM, PDF and EPUB. The advantage of ClickHelp is a sleek backend User Interface much more in keeping with modern software solutions. The software includes capabilities for publishing contextual help, which means your content can pop up within an interface to provide support during the user experience. Even though ClickHelp is browser-based, you can still produce quality print manuals with this solution. On the down side, you can only use HelpNDoc on Windows, so if you use Linux or Mac OS then you can’t run this software.ĬlickHelp is a web-based Help Authoring Tool and it’s offered at $2520 for the pro version, but three authors are included with your plan. For example, you can update the same image used in multiple instances by updating it once in the library. If your content needs updating, you only have to update it once using the variable. The software includes features such as the creation of variables, which you use to define a reusable piece of content. You can also export your content to your chosen format, such as PDF, by clicking a single button. You can use the software to produce HTML and CHM documents, PDF and Word files, EPUB, and also responsive mobile sites. The license is related to each version, so when a new version is released you will need to purchase HelpNDoc again to receive updates and support. HelpNDoc comes as a desktop installation, and costs $283.96 for a single license with a year’s worth of support and updates included. It’s as simple to use as a basic Windows interface and Microsoft Word, and it’s published by IBE Software. HelpNDoc has entered the market as a slightly simpler Help Authoring Tool that cuts out much of the extensive functionality you get with RoboHelp and Madcap Flare. These products must walk a thin line between keeping the interface consistent on each release for long-time users, and welcoming users who have never used this type of software before. One of the main criticisms of the two major Help Authoring Tools RoboHelp and Madcap Flare is that it’s hard for new users to learn the interface. A documentation solution for creating a responsive, modern website like Document360 is more likely to fulfil your needs. On the other hand, if all you want is a single documentation website, RoboHelp may not be the best option. If your focus leans towards print, Madcap Flare is a better choice than RoboHelp. While RoboHelp does support printed content, this is more of an add-on function than a central feature. RoboHelp can support multiple documentation sites, but you are responsible for hosting the servers and websites. It includes template designs that allow you to produce stylish looking sites very quickly, since it auto-generates the code for the web pages. RoboHelp is aimed more towards producing responsive documentation websites than it is towards printed manuals. You then use your topics as the basis for producing specially formatted, reusable help content – known as topic-based authoring. This could be a word, sentence, paragraph, or entire page. RoboHelp calls its help content units ‘topics’, which you define as a single unit of content. If you’re in good shape and a decent hiker, you could do it even faster. With an average hiking speed of 2 miles an hour, plus 30 minutes for every 1,000 feet of elevation, the hike from the base of Mount Doom to the door in the cinder cone would take around 4 hours, conservatively. And given the diameter and the average slope, they would’ve covered 3.5 miles or so to get there. The entrance to Sauron’s Sammath Naur (“Chambers of Fire”) is “high in the upper cone but still far from the reeking summit”, which probably puts it near the 4,000-foot mark. Not to mention, Frodo and Sam didn’t have to hike all the way to the top. Most hikers consider anything less that 30 degrees “easy.” You wouldn’t need switchbacks at that angle, making a shorter, direct approach possible. That’s even shallower than Mount Fuji‘s gentle Kawaguchiko trail (21.6 degrees). Mount Doom’s diameter was 7 miles at the base, meaning the average slope was only 20 degrees. Even the volcano used as a stand-in for Mount Doom in The Lord of the Rings film series, New Zealand’s Mount Ngauruhoe, is 3,000 feet taller than Tolkien describes.īut elevation isn’t the only reason Frodo and Sam had it easy. Mount Kilimanjaro, for instance, is over 19,000 feet, and Italy’s other famous volcano, Mount Etna, is nearly 11,000. That’s about the same size as Mount Vesuvius, the infamous stratovolcano in Italy that destroyed Pompeii and Herculaneum in 79 AD.Īs far as volcanoes go, 4,500 feet is actually quite small. So 3,000 feet for the shoulders, and another 1,500 feet for the cinder cone, equaling 4,500 feet from base to summit. The confused and tumbled shoulders of its great base rose for maybe three thousand feet above the plain, and above them was reared half as high again its tall central cone . Tolkien was very specific about Mount Doom’s height in The Return of the King: Frodo and Sam’s final hike, while certainly no walk in the park, wasn’t exactly a daring feat of mountaineering prowess, either. Turns out, the towering volcano where the One Ring was forged…isn’t all that towering, after all. With any luck you will find someone who appreciates the aesthetics of old trees-who recognizes the beauty, as well as the ecological importance, of big holes, broken limbs, and gnarly wood. If the tree does pose a hazard, I would look for an arborist who is willing to do the least amount of work necessary to remove the hazard, making every effort to leave as much of the tree as possible and not destroy its appearance. All in all, as long as the tree doesn't pose a hazard to people or property (the advice of a professional could be helpful in making this decision), I would leave it alone to live out its life in dignity and peace. To me it sounds like a pretty cool plant and one I would be happy to have in my garden. All too often, valuable native species are classified as pests just because they don't fit preconceived notions of attractiveness. I don't know much about mistletoe because I've never lived anywhere that it grows, but I wasn't surprised to read in the Wikipedia that it is an ecologically important species. Ideally I'd want to work with an arborist who could show me examples of dead or dying trees he/she has left standing (aka snags). Before hiring an arborist, I'd ask him or her to explain the ecological value of dead and dying trees. When working with old trees it's important to get advice from an arborist who understands their value and won't be in too much of a hurry to make drastic changes. Dead branches and other litter (which is not necessarily a sign of disease-healthy trees drop litter too), if left to decompose naturally, are also important for ecosystem health. Holes in dead and dying trees are vital nesting spots for many birds and small mammals. Old, diseased trees, and the dead trees they eventually turn into, play just as important a role in an ecosystem as the young, healthy ones do-even more important because, thanks to the misguided practices of the past, dead and dying trees have become so rare. What should I do? From Mary Answer: Dear Mary, old is not ugly, dying is not bad, and dead is part of the natural order. It is a dear tree, and I don't want it to come to fatal harm. I know the infected wood will have to go, at least that is what I'm told, but a considerable amount of tree must be removed in the process. I don't know quite what to do with it, as every windstorm drops branches, bark and other parts down on the yard below. Question: I have a neat old elm tree in the front yard which is sorely afflicted with mistletoe. In Finder, give it the same icon as Terminal. In Script Editor, save the example AppleScript code as an AppleScript application, as e.g.: Open Terminal Here.Set currentFolder to target of Finder window 1 as aliasĭo script "cd " & quoted form of POSIX path of currentFolder & " clear"Īs an added bonus, you can also use the example AppleScript code saved as an AppleScript application in Script Editor and place it in the Toolbar of Finder, thus allowing one to click the icon to open a Terminal window at the current location when one wants versus using the keyboard short assigned to the Automator service. Accessibility privileges for Automator may need to be granted for this service to work properly.Įxample AppleScript code: tell application "Finder".I wanted to use ^⌘T but it would not work, so I settled for: ^⌘\ Additionally, the assigned keyboard shortcut cannot be one that is already in use by Finder.Note: After assigning it a keyboard shortcut, you may have to trigger the new service one time with the mouse from the Finder > Services menu for it to work subsequently using the assigned keyboard shortcut. It should show under the General section of the aforementioned path. Open Terminal Here with the settings as shown in the image below. Ĭreate an Automator Service adding a Run AppleScript action, then replace the default code with the example AppleScript code shown below. One way to open a Terminal window at the location of the current Finder window, using a keyboard shortcut, is to use AppleScript in an Automator Service ( Quick Action in macOS Mojave), then assign it a keyboard shortcut in: System Preferences > Keyboard > Shortcuts > Services >. Well the built in service isn't available because an individual Folder isn't selected and what's selected in the Sidebar doesn't count. This may be fine for one's particular usage, but if not, then here is an alternative.įor example, say you have a Finder window open to your Downloads folder, which is selected in the Sidebar, and you want to open a Terminal window there. So if you have a Finder window open but no additional folder selected, it is not available. In System Preferences > Keyboard > Shortcuts > Services under Files and Folders there is a New Terminal at Folder shortcut which you can assign a keyboard shortcut to however, it only appears on the Finder > Services menu, or the right-click context menu, when a Folder is selected.
